Hollywood is not doing too well economy wise lately, they’ve been paying attention to the budget for their movies a lot more. Sadly there have been a good number of movies that have been either delayed or just dropped in general unless they lower the budget.
It’s been reported that Warner Bros. has shut down the production offices in Vancouver for the Akira live action due to the fact of needing to re cast and budget issues. Talent that was not on par to what they were looking for and crew were told to stop working and were sent back home. Now that everyone has been sent home producers Andrew Lazar, Michael Tadross, Jennifer Davisson and the director Jaume Collet-Serra need to get together and fix these issues before they can start production again.
One main concern that they have is that they don’t have actors that can draw the audience in, the only person signed officially to the project is Garrett Hedlund who was in the movie Tron. Now he isn’t really the type of person who can attract the audience in my opinion and Warner Bros. thinks the same. There are many other stars who are being considered to be in the film but none of them have the ability to attract the audience.
For the next two weeks, they will be discussing the casting and will be going over the script to see if they can make the 90 million dollar budget to around a 60-70 million dollar budget. Now being a fan of Akira, all I got to say is that this live action adaptation needs a pretty big budget or else it will most likely bomb because there will be a lot of amazing special effects needed to pull this off and an amazing cast to support the amazing plot.
