There are four days left till audiences and fans can make their way to a theatre nearby to see the re-release of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3-D. No matter what your opinion is on the Star Wars prequels, there’s no denying the fact that the Star Wars franchise has made a huge impression on people throughout the years for people who enjoy seeing movies in theatres and who experienced the joy of watching the first three films. EW’s writers will be celebrating their complicated relationship with George Lucas’ franchise with a series called “How Star Wars changed my life” For those of you who will be seeing the film in theaters this Friday, “May the Force be with you”.
Now Star Wars wasn’t just a masterpiece for our eyes to admire, it also taught me a valuable lesson of what’s right and what’s wrong. It was from the film Star Wars IV: A New Hope, instead of right and wrong it was portrayed as Light and Dark. Luke Skywalker being Light and Darth Vader being Dark, the thing is that with Darth Vader I learned that every bad person can also have a surprisingly good side.
I saw this film at a very young age, I seriously don’t know how old I was but all that could go through my head was that Darth Vader looked so awesome to the point I wanted to be him. I wanted the power he obtained for my own use, I wanted to be able to blow up a planet like Alderaan, Force choke anyone whenever where ever I wanted to and so many other things, the list could go on and on.
When I watched this film I didn’t understand as much since I was very young at the time, I just thought that Darth Vader was cool and that Lightsabers were awesome and that I wanted one for my upcoming birthday. A couple of years later I watched the film again and understood it better, I got to know the characters better especially my favourite Darth Vader, I also love Chewbacca, for some reason the weird growl like thing he does always makes me laugh.
In the end Star Wars introduced me to good movies as a kid, which then came along the Lord of the Rings – this and Star Wars are by far the best movies I’ve seen in my life and it’s sad that nowadays there hasn’t been something as good as these two. For some reason I think I might go see the re-release of the Star Wars films for the hell of it, why not? But then I’ll be seeing Jar Jar Binks on the big screen which could be a problem…
