Confirmed: Boy Meets World Spin Off Being Developed By Disney!

I certainly don’t want to come off as vain or self centered, but it seems that I am actually magical. Remember when I was obsessively picking apart Ben Savage’s tweet? He joked that a Boy Meets World reunion was in the works, and we reported our conclusions on Halloween. A full two days later, Disney released an official statement about their plans for the show’s future, which is more than just a reunion special–it’s a whole new show!

Check this out: “The Disney Channel is in the early stages of developing a Boy Meets World sequel series called Girl Meets World. Sources say that the cable network is trying to land original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel to revisit their roles of sweethearts Cory and Topanga, who married before their ABC sitcom ended its seven-season run. The new series would center on their preteen daughter.”

Yes, please! I would love to see these guys as adults, and more than that, parents! I can already see it: Cory wants to play baseball with his daughter, but she is either a total hippie like Topanga was, or super girly. I wonder what the Disney formula for success will do to the show though. It’s not exactly a secret that their TV child stars are over glam, obnoxious, and know it alls. Also, what if Ben and Danielle don’t sign on? Would the plans die or would they be recast? The only way to pull this off is to get the original cast, write maybe two seasons, and end with a made for TV movie.

Did you watch BMW as a kid? I think that this generation could use some of George Feeny’s wisdom, Eric’s charm and big heart, and Shawn’s 2 cool 4 school playboy attitude. We’ll keep you posted as Disney develops, but what’s your first reaction? Joy? Fear? Skepticism?
