It looks like Selena Gomez has finally felt like it was time to let her fans know why her troubled relationship to Justin Bieber came to an end. Despite the fact that she didn’t go into detail, she tried to put Justin across as a good guy, but for some reason, the problems they were having ripped them apart from each other and they weren’t able to solve it afterwards.
The 20-year old discusses with Harper’s Bazaar that the media attention she received through her public-figure ex-boyfriend didn’t affect her in the slightest, in fact, it made her realize how important it was to be as private as possible. She states that looking at couples like Jay-Z and Beyonce, they tend to make it look so easy to have a smooth romance without any conflicts occurring on the way, but Selena is sure that even they have their arguments, yet they are able to solve it through communication and understanding what issues the other person may have.
“That’s not a factor for me because unfortunately you can’t control that,” she said. “To me, love is normal. Of course, you see Jay and Beyoncé and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, they’re perfect for each other’, but at the end of the day their love is just like everybody else’s love. They have problems, I’m sure, and they solve them, like anybody else. So to make it as normal as possible – in such an abnormal lifestyle – was super important to both of us. Which was great… That’s how it should be.”
Selena continues to add that dating someone who is in the same industry that she is in makes it a lot easier, because you won’t have to worry on your other half selling a story about you once you break up – it will affect their reputation, too. But not only that, for a regular person to date someone like Gomez wouldn’t work out since their work schedules are completely different.
“It does get really hard and stressful,” she said. “My first boyfriend wasn’t [in the industry] and it all sort of started happening, so… I felt bad,” before adding that being famous makes it hard to trust people – you never know who wants to be your friend and who just want to sell a story about your life: “It’s hard for me to tell myself to trust people and be open, because I don’t. That’s one of the negative things about this industry, that makes you very scared of everybody and their motives. It’s sad, but that’s how you have to protect yourself.”
