John Green’s “Looking for Alaska” Headed to The Big Screen
It’s a great time to be a John Green fan. The writer’s first novel, Looking for Alaska was optioned to be made into a film not long after being published back in 2005 but until recently things weren’t looking so promising. Now we are hearing that Sarah Polley, a great actress, director and screenwriter has been hired to adapt Alaska to the big screen. Green himself is thrilled to learn that his first baby is in Polley’s more than capable hands.
In case you haven’t read it yet, Looking for Alaska centers on Miles, a young boy starting at a boarding school where he meets the beautiful and troubled Alaska Young. She captivates him along with most of the other boys at school. Since Green wrote it I think we all have come to expect a good deal of tragedy to be woven in and Alaska is no exception there.
Looking for Alaska is Green’s third novel to be headed for the big screen, something that thrills his fans for sure. The Fault In Our Stars has grossed over $100 million at the box office in a few short weeks and has catapulted its’ young stars into a different galaxy of fan appreciation. My guess is that young Hollywood will be tripping over themselves to try and snag a role in Alaska because anything connected to Green is going to equal instant success and big bucks. Who would you guys like to see cast as Miles and Alaska? Would you like to see the parts go to familiar names or would you prefer that they find actors that are as of yet unknown? Are you loving John Green’s work? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
