Summer Job Ideas For Tweens

Summer Job Ideas For Tweens

When it comes to summer side jobs for tweens you may need to be a little creative to find something that will work for their age group. Tweens are between the ages of 10 and 12 years old so a traditional job is not something that they can do. When I was that age there were plenty of jobs for me but the way the world has changed over the years has limited some of the things that they are allowed to do at this age.

Babysitting– Check the law in your state but most of the time a person between the ages of 10 and 12 years would not be able to watch a child alone. If you are home with your children it may be an option for them to provide care and playtime for a younger child while you are around. This could be done for a short time while the younger child’s parents runs errands during the day. Your child will begin to develop baby sitting skills that could last them into their teen years.

Dog Walking– I would advise that you screen all dogs to make sure they are up to date on their shots and a size that could be easily managed by your tween. Their are plenty of folks that would love to pay your tween a little something to walk/play with Fido. Sometimes when people go out of town they need someone to stop by and feed their animals and spend time with them. This can be a great job for a tween.

Outside jobs– There is plenty of outside work that is perfect for tweens. Whether a lawn needs raked, a fence painted or a garden needs some weeding there is something out there that they can do. Make up a little flyer stating what your tween is available to do and distribute it to your family and friends and watch the jobs come pouring in.

Helping with the Elderly– There is plenty of work that the elderly are unable to do anymore that would be very easy for your child to assist with. Some ideas in this department would include putting groceries away, sweeping and dusting the house, working outside in the yard or garden, or helping them fold laundry.

There are plenty of jobs out there that will help your tween earn some extra cash. One thing I would like to stress is to always make sure you know the person your child is working for and to make sure that they are always safe. Having a job at such a young age will allow them to nurture a work ethic and help them earn a little cash and independence at the same time.
