How to Moisturize Dry and Damaged Hair

Your hair needs its thirst quenched just as your body does. If your hair is dry, it will end up looking dull and drab. However, just because you have dry hair, you don’t need to fret since there are some things you can do to moisturize hair that is dry and damaged.

Dry hair is caused by several things such as heredity, age, diet and external factors. Heredity is something that can’t be controlled. If your parents have dry hair, you most likely will too. External factors that contribute to dry hair include using the wrong shampoo and conditioner for your hair type, too much sun and chlorine.

Avocado is great for helping add moisturize dry and damaged hair because of the oils and proteins it contains. In a bowl, mash up an avocado and mix in 5-6 drops of peppermint essential oil. Shampoo your hair as normal, squeeze out excess water and apply avocado mixture to your hair. Let the avocado set in your hair for 20 minutes and then rinse with warm water.

Two of the best ingredients for dry hair are pumpkin and honey. Pumpkin has some great moisturizing benefits because of ingredients like zinc, potassium, beta-carotene, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Honey is a natural humectant. Combine a cup of canned pumpkin with 2 tablespoons of honey. Apply the mixture to your hair and wear a shower cap so the mask stays in place. Let it set for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.

Coconut oil is another item that is great for dry hair. Coconut oil is heavy so it is ideal for getting deep into the shaft of your hair. Add some coconut oil to the ends of your hair when it is damp. In the event that the oil is hard, just liquefy it in the microwave first.
