Creating Beach-Style Hair Waves with Gel and Mousse

If you love curly beach-style hair but don’t live near the beach, you can still get beach waves by using gel and mousse. You may notice that people that live by the beach or hang out at the beach often will have wavy hair. This is because the combination of the sun and the salt water makes hair wavier.

Hair gel is thicker than mousse and often has no color to it. Gel is designed to provide a strong hold and gives hair some shine. Mousse is often used to volumize hair. It is a white colored foam that is lightweight.

The first thing you want to do is wash your hair with your normal shampoo and conditioner. Then, towel dry your hair and comb out any tangles you may have. Take the bottle of hair gel and squeeze some into one of your hands. Rub both hands together so there is gel on both hands and scrunch sections of your hair. Scrunching your hair is nothing more than grabbing the ends of your hair and pushing the hair upwards towards your scalp. Be sure to get the gel throughout all of your hair.

Now, divide your hair into three sections: back, right side and left side. Take each section and twist your hair into a bun, like you were making a ponytail. You want to gather your hair as high as you can so that you end up with three hair buns.

Next, spray your hair with hair spray and allow to dry. The last step is to apply the mousse. Before applying the mousse, take the hair buns out so your hair freely falls down. You don’t want to brush or comb your hair but instead just run your fingers through your hair to loosen the curls. Squeeze a small amount of mousse into one hand and rub both hands together like you did with the gel. You then want to scrunch your hair the same way you did with the gel as well. You can either blow dry it at this point or allow it to dry naturally.
