The Do’s and Don’ts of Fall Fashion

The Do’s and Don’ts of Fall Fashion

September kicks off the fall season. That means it is time to transition from your summer wardrobe to your fall wardrobe. Here is what you need to know about the do’s and don’ts of fall fashion.

Do: Do look for different ways to add some color to your fall wardrobe. This doesn’t mean you need to wear neon pink pants. You can add subtle color to your look by adding a scarf or handbag.

Don’t: Don’t forget to wear layers in the fall. Layers add intrigue and they also keep you toasty on chilly fall days.

Do: Do choose jewel tones in clothing. Many people make the mistake of wearing neutral colors when the weather gets cooler. You don’t have to do this as jewel tones will make any outfit stand out.

Don’t: Don’t steer clear of wearing classic prints during the fall season. Fall is the ideal time to wear tweeds and trendy prints, like houndstooth.

Do: Do wear a short suit in the fall. While you may think this is a daring fashion move for fall, they are stylish, fashionable and adorable all rolled into one. These comfortable suits are sleek enough for the office yet lively enough for an evening gathering.

Don’t: Don’t put your whites away. Yes, Labor Day has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean you can still wear white. There are climates where the fall season don’t exactly have fall temperatures. However, even in the New England states, you can see people wearing white cashmere and parkas in the middle of winter. Wear a white turtleneck with black pants, a brown vest over a white pantsuit or white jeans with a rust-colored sweater.

Do: Do put the flip-flops away for now. While it is okay to wear white in the fall, it is not appropriate to wear flip-flops in the fall. They may be comfortable and fun to wear, but when the weather gets colder, you want to cover your feet with shoes and boots. Summer will come around again so you can break out the flip-flops once again.

Don’t: Don’t put away the tunics. Many people think they have to store their tunics during the colder months. However, this isn’t the case at all. You can layer your tunics so that this summer item can be worn throughout the fall as well. Tunics look great with a pair of pants, leggings or jeans.
