How to Get the Smoky Eyes Look

Why Is It Bad to Sleep with Makeup On? - The Surprising Answers

Many women love the smoky eyes look but have no idea how to achieve it. You certainly don’t have to be a makeup professional to learn this stunning application. Here is how you can get the smoky eyes look in just a few steps.

Prime eyelids- Priming your lids will ensure that your eyeshadow will have a good base to sit on. After you apply your eyeshadow base, as the primer, allow it to dry before you move on to the next step.

Apply base shadow- Next, apply a neutral color eyeshadow to your top eyelid, starting from lash to brow.

Line eyes- Use a black eyeliner pencil, this is the easiest to use for a smoky eyes look. Line your upper lid as well as your lower lash line. You want to be sure that you use the liner as close to your eyelashes as you can get. You can use a fingertip to move your eyelid around so you can get closer to the lash line.

Soften the liner- To soften your eyeliner, use a Q-tip and softly drag it across the eyeliner so it provides you with a softer effect.

Apply black eyeshadow- Using an eyeshadow applicator, apply black eyeshadow over your eyeliner. You want to start with just the top lid for the moment. After application, softly smudge with a Q-tip.

Apply regular eyeshadow- For this smoky eyes look, choose an eyeshadow that is gray or brown in color. Apply this color to your eyelid, beginning at your eyelash line, sweeping over your eyelid crease and ending right under the bone of your eyebrow.

Sweep under eyes- Using a cotton ball, gently sweep any excess eyeshadow from the bottom part of the eye area. If you are wearing concealer and/or powder, now is the time to apply them.

Apply black eyeshadow- Now, apply your black eyeshadow to the bottom. You want to apply it the same way that you did for your top eyelid, including smudging.

Apply black mascara- Use black mascara for your eyelashes. Use 3 coats on your upper lashes and 2 coats on the bottom lashes.

Very helpful tips, but I’d rather want to see a video to see how you do apply it yourself.

Pretty awesome tutorial! I don’t normally apply eye shadow, I just use eyeliner and lipstick and that’s it. But I love a good smoky eye and I’d love to try this.
