‘Alaskan Bush People’ News: Why Ami Brown’s Mother Gave Consent To Marry, But One Rule Was Broken
Alaskan Bush People fans know that Ami Brown was just 15 years old when she married Billy Brown. There is a lot of heated debate about the couple’s relationship. Some view it as a true love story while others think Ami is fiercely controlled by her husband. So, why did Ami’s mother give parental consent and what is one rule that was broken?
Ami Brown’s Teen Marriage
The Alaskan Bush People matriarch married when she was 15 years old. Not only was she a teen bride, but Billy was 26 at the time. Even though many viewers have made this a huge issue lately, girls getting married in their early teens was not uncommon back then. Especially if they lived in rural communities or were separated from mainstream society. However, for it to be a legal marriage, the couple had to get parental consent.
Why Her Mother Gave Consent
So, why did Ami Brown’s mother agree? Her decision to give consent hasn’t really been discussed in detail. Perhaps it was so Ami could have a better life. Maybe Ami was just so in love her mother couldn’t say no. It might have been that Ami would have lived with Billy anyway, so her mother just signed the form. In any case, parental consent was given, but under one condition.
Alaskan Bush People: Billy Brown Had One Condition
Ami’s mother made Billy Bown promise that Ami would finish high school. The couple agreed to the condition, so Ami’s mother gave her consent for the two to be married. However, things wouldn’t go exactly as Ami’s family hoped after the two tied the knot.
Breaking Rules And Cutting Off Contact
Alaskan Bush People fans may recall there have been a few times when Ami’s brother has caused problems for the couple. Ami’s family sent the police to do a welfare check on her not too long ago. But Ami’s brother, Les Branson, had made a Facebook post claiming the police wanted to talk to Ami because Billy made her an accessory in crimes.
There was also when Ami didn’t fulfil her obligation of finishing high school. She also cut off contact with her family. Les allegedly confronted Billy about it and got a shocking response. It is claimed that Billy fired back that Ami belonged to him now. When Ami cut off contact with her mother, it was forever. Her mom’s dying wish was to reconnect with Ami after nearly 40 years, but she died before her dream could come true.
