1000-Lb Sisters Star Amy Slaton Calls First Baby’s Birth ‘Miracle’

As 1000-Lb Sisters showed, Amy Slaton undertook her weight-loss journey with her eyes on the prize of a healthy baby. But viewers of the reality TV show also learned that Amy faced challenges in giving birth.

The 1000-Lb Sisters star had to undergo a C-section in order to welcome her first child, a baby boy who she named Gage. Amy told People magazine that when she was in the recovery room, she couldn’t hold her newborn baby.

“I just got out of [the] recovery room and Gage is in the nursery because his sugar was 24 — they want it at 50. So they’re giving him a little bit of formula, trying to get it up,” recalled Amy in the episode.

Although she couldn’t initially hold her baby boy, Amy did see him.

“When he started crying, I started crying. I already love Gage so much. This is a miracle,” added the 1000-Lb Sisters star.

How Would A Second Pregnancy Impact 1000-Lb Sisters Season 3?

If Amy and her husband decide to have a second child, it’s not just their lives that would be impacted. Her sister Tammy Slaton has said that the pregnancy caused her to feel “all sorts of things.”

Tammy admitted to feeling “mad and sad and worried about [Amy’s] health and safety since it was so soon after her [weight-loss] surgery…[But] I’m happy she got pregnant because it was the one thing she most wanted in life.”

Here’s what we know about how a second pregnancy could affect 1000-Lb Sisters Season 3:

  • Amy gained a significant amount of weight during her first pregnancy, using food cravings as her excuse for going off her post-weight-loss-surgery diet. Her sister expressed concern previously about that weight gain: “We’re just trying to get her to open her eyes and see that the things she’s doing isn’t the right choices. … And she could reverse the surgery,” pointed out Tammy. That experience could recur.
  • 1000-Lb Sisters Star Amy has said that she does want a second baby. She and Michael “are hoping for a girl,” she has stated. “Mike’s mom doesn’t have a granddaughter.”
  • Amy struggled to lose what she called her “baby weight.” As a result, the 1000-Lb Sisters star had to focus “hard” on her diet, “eating mostly grilled chicken and salad.”

Ultimately, although Amy does want a second baby, her health may have to become a priority in season 3. Will the third season of 1000-Lb Sisters show Amy determined to get pregnant again despite the health risks?
