In an interview with In Touch, Maci Bookout McKinney says that her son hasn’t seen his dad, Ryan Edwards, in over a month.
The Teen Mom OG star tells In Touch that there are many reasons for her son’s choice, that he has “kind of set boundaries” with Ryan, 33, and has not wanted to be around him that much.
Teen Mom OG:
The 30-year-old 16 & Pregnant alum explained that though Bentley, 12, was still a kid, she still gives him some say “in what goes on in his life” despite the drama between her and the Edwards family.
“That’s what he’s comfortable with” the reality star, and author, tells In Touch adding that, as his mom, she is going to support him in that.
Maci says that her son is still close with all of his stepsiblings in spite of the drama between their parents.
Teen Mom OG:
Ryan is currently married to Mackenzie Edwards (née Standifer) with who he shares two children, son Jagger,2-, and 20-month-old daughter Stella, while Mackenzie also has a son, Hudson, from a previous relationship.
Maci and Ryan parent their son Bentley together, though Maci also has two kids with husband Taylor McKinney, Maverick, 5, and Jade who is 6.
Maci emphasized that all the kids get along well, and that Bentley is a good big brother “to all of his siblings.”
Teen Mom OG: The Grandparents, Larry and Jen
Maci goes on to tell In Touch that she has had no communication with Bentley’s grandparents in a while, Jen and Larry Edwards, subsequent to their firing from the show in March.
Fans will recall that, in the Season 9 Teen Mom OG reunion special, tensions reached a peak between the McKinneys and Edwards and it was all over disagreements over visitation with Taylor McKinney, at one point, blasting Ryan Edwards dad, Larry, saying, “Don’t buck up to me!”
On the special, Larry threw blame at Maci for “limiting” the amount of time Bentley spent with Ryan and his family.
For his part, Taylor defended his wife saying that she had “bent over backwards” to ensure that Bently maintained a relationship with his grandparents despite the rocky relationship she had with his father.
Maci doesn’t seem to care, one way or the other, about Ryan’s wife Mackenzie in all of this saying, “It’s just that she would be last on the priority list as far as you know, Jen, Larry, and Ryan go” adding that she’s not someone she wants to hang out with.
