Josh Duggar Sentencing: Jill And Derick Dillard Issue A Statement
Josh Duggar updates revealed that he was sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison. It came months after being convicted of downloading and possession of child porn. It’s been a year since his arrest and through the trial, Counting On fans followed Derick and Jill Dillard for their reactions. Now that he’s been sentenced, the former TLC couple made an official statement.
Josh Duggar Trial Ends With Prison Sentence
When TLC fans first heard about the arrest and charges against Jill Dillard’s brother, many fans hoped that Derick would spill some tea. At the time, he was studying law, and they hoped he’d give them some insights into the case. That never happened, but he and Jill made sure to issue statements.
When the jury found Josh Duggar guilty, Derick and Jill said in their statement that it was “difficult for our family.” Additionally, they mentioned the children that were abused. Plus, they thanked the various departments that worked hard on the case. Furthermore, they felt that the jury reached a just verdict… consistent with the truth beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Josh Duggar Sentencing: Jill & Derick Dillard’s Statement
Counting On fans waited a day before they saw that Jill had posted up on Instagram about the prison term. There, she directed fans to their blog, and it was clearly carefully worded and thought out. So if you hoped that Derick slammed his father-in-law, you’ll be disappointed. OIn it, Jill and Derick mentioned that they “continue to love Josh and his family and will be there for them however we can.“
Talking about the 151-month sentence for Josh Duggar, they are not arguing if it’s too short, or too long. Instead, they noted, “Until now, he has yet to be held accountable to the extent necessary to cause a change in his dangerous pattern of behavior.” So they inferred that earlier intervention might have prevented it.
What Else Did They Say?
The couple hopes that Josh Duggar “can actually begin to get treatment.” That’s what they hope will prevent him from re-offending.
If there is any good to be taken from the ugly trial, it is that it might have “contributed to the deterrence of potential offenders.“
Neither of them are rejoicing over the outcome of the case. Of course, being Christians, they also referred to the bible. The good book, they noted, “clearly states that God effects justice and vengeance through the governing authorities.”
Therefore, they believe “God…carried out his vengeance today for his unspeakable criminal activity.“
