Jeanette Jennings Does Not Want Her Daughter Jazz Jennings To Restrict Her Happiness To One Sex
Dating as a transwoman can be hard, even for a reality TV star like Jazz Jennings. In the latest season of the TLC show “I Am Jazz”, the 22-year-old will be documenting her journey to finding love, whether it’s a “prince or princess charming”.
Jeanette Jennings Says She Knows It’s Hard For Jazz To Find Love As A “Fat Transwoman”
This latest season of “I Am Jazz” will follow the star as she gets back in the dating pool, but Jeanette Jennings, Jazz’s mother, is wary that it would be hard for Jazz to find a partner due to her being a trans.
“She wants to meet her Prince or Princess Charming and fall in love,” Jeanette told PEOPLE. “And I told her, it’s just not going to be like that.”
While Jeanette wishes people could be more “accepting” and “empathetic” of her daughter, she also feels protective of her daughter’s feelings.
“It’s harder for her [to date] being a trans woman,” Jeanette added. “And then also if she says, ‘I’m a fat trans woman in the room; it makes me really uncomfortable,’ it can make her sad.”
Jazz Jennings’ Mother Trusts Her To Make “Smart Decisions”
Last Spring, Jazz joined the lacrosse team at Harvard university in hopes to conquer her binge-eating disorder. Even though she meets many people during the sporting events, her mother wants her to look beyond it to find someone worth loving.
Jeanette advised her to know that the “athletes and cisgender men who are very macho, are honestly, not often looking for a trans woman, unfortunately.”
She explained, “They are out there, and I don’t want to stereotype, but it makes it hard being in a room full of people that are all flirting and forming connections, and you’re just over there in the corner talking to a friend. So I just want to protect her, put her in a bubble from those situations.”
However, she trusts her daughter to “make smart decisions” and “not put herself in situations that could be harmful.”
“I think she’s really good at reading a room, engaging where she should go and shouldn’t go. But it’s the other people around her that are very unkind,” Jeanette explained. “It’s the rest of the world I don’t trust.”
